Pengguna telepon genggam jaman sekarang pasti tidaklah asing mendengar kata Android. Android merupakan salah satu sistem operasi telepon genggam yang paling terkenal di dunia. Android merupakan sebuah sistem operasi berbasis Linux yang didesain secara khusus untuk perangkat mobile yang menggunakan layar sentuh seperti smartphone dan computer tablet. Android pertama kali dikembangkan oleh Android, Inc. yang dibantu secara finansial oleh Google hingga dibeli pada tahun 2005. Android diperkenalkan secara luas kepada masyarakat pada tahun 2007 bersamaan dengan berdirinya Open Handset Allience, sebuah konsorsium dari perusahaan perangkat keras, perangkat lunak dan telekomunikasi yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan standarisasi terbuka bagi perangkat mobile. Telepon genggam pertama yang menggunakan Android dijual pada Oktober 2008.

Android merupakan sistem operasi yang open source dan Google merilis kode-kodenya dibawah lisensi Apache. Karena sifatnya yang open source dan adanya lisensi memungkinkan program untuk diubah dengan bebas dan didistribusikan oleh produsen perangkat mobile, penyedia layanan nirkabel, dan para pengembang perangkat lunak. Sebagai tambahan, terdapat komunitas besar yang terdiri dari para pengembang aplikasi untuk Android yang dapat berguna untuk mengembangkan fungsionalitas dari perangkat Android yang ditulis dalam bahasa pemrograman Java. Pada Oktober 2012, terdapat kurang lebih 700.000 aplikasi tersedia untuk Android, dan perkiraan jumlah aplikasi yang pernah diunduh dari Google Play mencapai nilai 25 miliar

Sifat Android yang terbuka memicu munculnya komunitas-komunitas pengembang aplikasi-aplikasi yang besar untuk menggunakan kode-kode Android sebagai pondasi dari project komunitas bersama, yang dapat menambahkan fitur-fitur baru bagi pengguna mahir atau membuat telepon genggam yang awalnya menggunakan sistem operasi lain dapat menggunakan Android.

Meskipun Android bersifat terbuka, para produsen divais tidak dapat menggunakan Android sebelum Google menyatakan bahwa divais tersebut memenuhi persyaratan pada Compatibility Definition Document (CDD). Divais tersebut juga harus memenuhi persyaratan tersebut apabila ingin menggunakan aplikasi-aplikasi Google, seperti Google Play. 

Bagaimana cara kita memperoleh aplikasi-aplikasi yang dapat kita pakai di Android? Cara yang paling umum untuk dilakukan adalah dengan mencarinya di Google Play. Dengan mengetikan nama aplikasi yang ingin dicari, kita dapat menemukan aplikasi yang kita inginkan dari 600.000 aplikasi yang sudah diunggah ke Google Play. Selain itu kita juga dapat mendownload APK dari aplikasi tersebut dari website-website pihak ketiga, kemudian kita tinggal menginstallnya di smartphone kita.

Android memiliki pangsa pasar dunia di bidang smartphone sebesar 75% pada kuartal ketiga tahun 2012 dengan total 750 juta divais aktif, dengan 1.5 juta aktivasi per harinya. Kesuksesan sistem operasi ini memancing dirinya menjadi target dari pelanggaran hak paten, atau yang sering dikenal sebagai “perang smartphone” di antara perusahaan teknologi. Pada Mei 2013, sebanyak 900 juta divais Android telah aktif dan 48 miliar applikasi sudah pernah di unduh dari Google Play.

Processor atau CPU (Central Processing Unit) adalah sebuah komponen komputer yang bertugas untuk mengeksekusi instruksi atau melakukan perhitungan-perhitungan. Sebelum membeli sebuah processor kalian harus mencari tahu terlebih dahulu socket processor apa yang dimiliki oleh motherboard kalian, apakah socket AM2, socket LGA 775, atau lain sebagainya.

RAM

RAM adalah singkatan dari Random Access Memory, yaitu sebuah komponen komputer yang berfungsi untuk menyimpan data sementara dari suatu program yang sedang kita jalankan dan data-data tersebut bisa diakses secara acak atau random. Video Card

Video card ini adalah komponen komputer yang berfungsi untuk menghasilkan output gambar untuk ditampilkan di monitor. Sound Card

Ibarat sebuah mobil yang tidak bisa berjalan jika tidak memiliki bahan bakar, maka sebuah komputer pun tidak akan bisa nyala atau berfungsi jika tidak memiliki power supply atau PSU (Power Supply Unit) ini. Power supply adalah sebuah komponen komputer yang berfungsi untuk mensuplai arus listrik ke komponen-komponen komputer lainnya seperti motherboard, hard disk, optical disk drive, dan lain sebagainya.

Casing

Casing komputer adalah sebuah komponen komputer yang berfungsi sebagai tempat kita meletakkan atau menempelkan motherboard, power supply, optical disc drive, hard disk, dan lain sebagainya. Casing komputer ini dibedakan berdasarkan ukurannya yang sering disebut juga sebagai form factor (seperti ATX dan Micro ATX) dimana form factor ini mengacu kepada form factor motherboard yang didukungnya.
